acc_sitedesarr[2]="In the highlands of Cameroon, hidden in the valleys of seemingly endless hills and volcanic peaks, lie the villages that comprise the Boyo region where Cameroon BOYO&trade; Coffee is born.<br/><br/>The striking characteristics of BOYO coffee are the direct result of the nutrient rich, dark volcanic top soil and the ideal climatic conditions of the Boyo region. Each year, the blossoming of the coffee plants coincides with the onset of the first rains.<br/><br/>As Nature waters Boyo, she brings additional nutrients down from the upper slopes of the volcanic mountains, further nourishing the coffee plants. Just as the coffee berries start to ripen, the dry season sets in, blessing the hills with daily doses of brilliant sunshine. This sunshine allows the coffee berries to quickly attain their optimal sugar content. This is the secret of Cameroon BOYO&trade; Coffee's distinct flavor.<br/><br/><span style='color:green'>A uniquely intensive and all natural cultivating, harvesting and selection process</span><br/><br/>The BOYO coffees grow alongside other complimentary crops such as avocados, plantains, beans and other vegetables. They are sufficiently spread out so that each individual coffee tree grows within its own micro-eco system. While this practice results in a lower yield per hectare, it allows us to minimize cross infection of the coffee plants and control weeds and damaging insects without the use of harmful herbicides and pesticides. To further supplement the soil nutrients, the coffee berry pulp is mixed with the soil around each coffee plant after de-pulping of the berries.<br/><br/>The farmers and their families then facilitate the fermentation, washing and drying of their coffee beans, constantly removing debris and all undesirable beans. When the correct degree of dryness has been attained, the coffee beans are sent to the dry mill where they are shelled, sorted by screen size and hand-picked. One such approach is the so called &ldquo;fair trade&rdquo; certification process. The questions remain: &ldquo;why is it that after all these years, poverty still persists even in areas where fair trade is practiced?&rdquo;, &ldquo;what is the criterion for setting market prices for 'fair trade' certified coffee?&rdquo;; …<br/><br/>The approach of the BOYO coffee farmers and their collaborators is changing that situation. Since Cameroon BOYO&trade; Coffee is owned by the producing farmers, sales proceeds directly reward them. Furthermore, to get the best market price, farmers understand they have to deliver the best quality coffee.
